This year’s Le Mans Classic has been pushed back another 12 months.
Following the pandemic-prompted cancellation of the 2020 edition, organiser Peter Auto has confirmed that the rescheduled 1-4 July 2021 event will now not go ahead either.
It is hoped that the usually biennial meeting will return for its 10th running in July 2022, on either the first or second weekend of that month.
And there’s more.
Plans are also afoot for an additional meeting in 2023.
The Le Mans Classic Centenary Edition, in July 2023, will be part of the celebrations for the 100th anniversary of the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
The organising team explained it was keen to take the decision about this year’s race now, “so as not to take anyone by surprise”.
“It is totally impossible to organise a miniature of the event which normally welcomes 200,000 spectators,” said Peter Auto. “In summary, a Le Mans Classic which would not be anymore the celebration of the automobile it has become in 20 years and 10 editions of existence. Unthinkable!”
The 2022 date will be confirmed in September.
