Car polish is essential whether it’s to get a show-ready finish, or simply to get the best life and lustre from your classic car’s paintwork.
There is a host of differing products out there, though, some offering high-tech science in a bottle, others good old-fashioned polish at a budget price.
To find out which polish is worth your money and elbow grease, we started with a clean, cool, dry car – a classic E46 BMW 330i that’s wearing every one of its 20 years in the light scratches and marks around its metallic paint.
With a new polishing pad for every product, we set about with a mechanical, rotary polisher so that every product got the same vigour of application and didn’t suffer as a result of a tired elbow and human weariness.
After buffing it with a microfibre, we assessed the finished article and rated the car polishes based on how effectively they took out any haze and minor scratching, as well as on the overall shine and colour restoration.

Min price per litre £54.98
The Glart polish is perfectly adequate but wasn’t overly impressive in this company.
