Classic & Sports Car – 11 cars from Vauxhall’s Heritage Collection for sale

A rare opportunity to get your hands on a piece of motoring history is just around the corner, with the news that 11 vehicles from Vauxhall’s famous Heritage Collection are heading to auction.

Ranging in age from 96 to just seven years old, all will go under the hammer with Brightwells in a no-reserve, online sale on 21-24 September.

The nine cars, one van and one coach are being sold ahead of the collection’s relocation later this year – a lack of space or the fact that some are duplicate models means these 11 are being let go, and some require recommissioning.

And don’t forget that other items from this treasure trove are being showcased in an exhibition in Luton from 5 September until 11 April 2021.

The oldest car on offer is a partially dismantled 1924 Vauxhall 14/40 M-type, that’s been in the collection since 1998 (pictured at the top of the page).

A two-seat car with a dickie seat, its paperwork goes right back to 1925 and it wears a full set of new Chevron Cord tyres, but needs quite a bit of mechanical work. It is thought it will sell for £12-16,000.

The next oldest is the only coach in the sale and also requires some TLC, but has been previously restored.

This 14-seater Bedford WHB from 1931 was bought by Vauxhall from its original owners in 1999 and it’s estimated it will achieve £10-12,000.

Another vehicle that’s been in this collection since ’99 and needs some work is the 1934 ASY Light Six, that goes to auction with its original registration paperwork and could fetch £3-5000.

The same can be said for the ’66 FC Victor Estate that needs some welding work and a brake overhaul – it has a £3-4000 pre-sale estimate.

Meanwhile, there’s a lovely story with the 1938 H-type 10/4 that’s also looking for a new home. Known as ‘The Duchess’, it was bequeathed to Vauxhall by its original owner, who bought it as a teenager in 1938.

But while it may be original and complete, it needs recommissioning – it’s thought it will achieve £2-3000.

This apparently box-fresh Chevette has done just 8281 miles

In much better condition is a base-model 1982 Chevette L that also has a chunky history file and, if Brightwells’ guide price is right, could be yours for £4500-5000 – well, it is described as being in ‘time-warp condition’ and with just over 8000 miles on the clock.

A Combo van from ’97 said to be an immaculate rare survivor, and used at the launch of the current model, is predicted to achieve £800-1000 – but, like all these lots, it is being sold with no reserve.

There are also two Corsas, a 2004 C 1.8SRi that’s been used for some PR work (£1-2000), and a 2013 D Black Edition (£2-3000).

Finally, there’s a 2004 Zafira GSi (£600-1000) and a low-mile 2007 Vectra C 2.0T (£2-4000).

“Our priority is to preserve the core Vauxhall Heritage Collection, which was founded over 70 years ago, and includes most of the important and iconic models we’ve produced from 1903 to 2017,” said Simon Hucknall, Vauxhall’s Head of PR.

“We have 80 vehicles, but many are duplicated, and some require either recommissioning or complete restoration, which we do not have time to undertake. Our focus now is right-sizing the Collection to include usable and significant Vauxhalls and Bedfords that best tell the story about our long and diverse heritage.”
