Eclectic collection of Italian classics to cross the block at Brightwells

More than 60 vehicles from the collection of Maserati specialist Andy Heywood are set to go under the hammer at Brightwells’ 8 March sale, including a number of rarities and curiosities.

“Although Maseratis will always be my first love, I’ve long been fascinated by other makes of Italian cars and bikes,” said Heywood. “Over the years on trips to Italy and suchlike I’ve found many incredible things that I couldn’t resist buying. My interests are eclectic for sure. I love the small capacity bikes and scooters from obscure makes and yet equally the iconic Fiat 500. If it’s Italian, I am always interested.”

Among the lots are a fully restored Autobianchi 500 van, a coach built Francis Lombardi MyCar, a Lancia Delta Integrale and a Ducati 900SS.

A host of scooters from Piaggio and Innocenti are joined by less common Iso, Gitan, Aermacchi and BM machines, while Moto Guzzi is also well represented.

A number of three-wheelers will also be included in the sale. An Ercole, several Piaggio Apes and a Casalini microcar will also be going under the hammer.

“They’ve all had equal rights in the collection, and for many of us, researching the history of long-forgotten makes of scooter is just as much fun as driving an Integrale on a damp country lane,” said Heywood.
