Malcolm Campbell Bugatti headlines Paris sale

| 26 Nov 2014

A Bugatti that once belonged to record-breaker Sir Malcolm Campbell is set to headline Artcurial's Retromobile sale, which will take place in Paris on 6 February.

The 1928 Type 43 Grand Sport was raced by Campbell in the Essex Six Hours on 12 May 1928, where he led the Bentley of Woolf Barnato until a fuelling problem forced the car's retirement.  It was entered in the RAC Tourist Trophy in August the same year – a race in which the car suffered a serious fire. It is expected to sell for several million pounds.

Also vying for the limelight is a 1966 Ferrari 275GTB, which was bought new by Roger Vadim before being offered to actress Jane Fonda. The long-nose example has remained in France since it was delivered in '66 and has been slated to fetch €2.75-3.25m.

The sale of the 275GTB comes three years after another of Vadim's Ferraris, this time a 250 California, achieved €4.5m at Retromobile.
