It may not be the most glamorous thing on four wheels, but an incredible 'brand-new' Austin Metro is expected to garner plenty of attention when it crosses the block at CCA’s CarFest South sale on 29 August.
The 1983 Vanden Plas model has covered a scarcely believable 741 miles throughout its life, and has had just one registered keeper since it left Longbridge. Being the second of just 500 identical models makes it quite a rarity, while its stunning condition can be attributed to its years spent in the historic Patrick Collection in Birmingham.
“It’s a delight to be offering such a special British icon in our sale at CarFest South,” said CCA’s general manager Guy Lees-Milne. “This is a unique opportunity to own an incredibly rare car, at no reserve, and this example is one to potentially bubble wrap for the future.”
Only a handful of Vanden Plas Metros are thought to remain on Britain’s roads, and of that number, ‘A500 VOJ’ is sure to be one of the most original, with the only parts replaced throughout its life being perished rubber seals and a water pump.
Its current owner said: “I doubt you will find another Metro like this in the world. I don’t even think that anyone has ever sat in the passenger seats! I really hope the new owner continues to cherish this amazing car for the future.”
The car is offered with no reserve.
