MG Car Club throws down racing gauntlet

| 22 May 2015

A brand-new 50-minute pit stop race that is open to all comers has been announced by the MG Car Club. It will take place at this year’s MG Live! event on 20-21 June. The one- or two-driver race will be held on the final day of the show and is open to all closed-wheel cars by invitation – not just MGs – though sports and GTs from the 1950s and ‘60s are encouraged.

Classes will be decided upon entry, and a 25-minute practice session is scheduled for the morning of the race. Garages are available, and all tyres – whether treaded road rubber or racing slicks – are permitted.

If racing isn’t your thing, there are plenty of other activities to keep you occupied throughout the weekend. One of the biggest draws will be the club displays, where all ages of MG will be put on show for visitors to admire. The Club Marquee will offer the chance to learn more about the cars, while an additional marquee (which also houses a licensed bar) is also on the cards.

For those who take pride in their car’s originality, a concours competition is a great opportunity to compare their classics with those of other enthusiasts. The winning car will go on to compete at the NEC Classic Motor Show and will feature on the Meguiars stand at the event. A Pride of Ownership competition will also be run, which caters for non-original examples.

The President’s International Dinner will be held on the Saturday evening at Silverstone Golf Club, where a three-course meal will be followed by the announcement of the 2015 Nuffield Gold Cup winner.
An After Hours event organised by the MGF Register is expected to be a more lively affair, with live music, a disco and a hog roast.
