New car show announced for capital

The London Classic Car Show will take place at the city's ExCeL Centre from 8-11 January 2015, it was revealed this week. The new show has been launched by Brand Events, the organisers behind CarFest and Top Gear Live, and aims to give London a show comparable to Paris' Rétromobile.

"With CarFest and Top Gear Live, we have show that we bring new ideas to motoring events," said events director Bas Bungish. "The plans we have for The London Classic Car Show mean it will be a long way removed from a traditional classic car show."

A key element of the event will be a Grand Avenue, where visitors will be able to see and hear the top cars being driven.

"The Grand Avenue will add an extra dimension to the new London Classic Car Show," said Bungish. "Part of the appeal of a classic Ferrari is the snarl of its V12 engine, while the V8 rumble from an American muscle car is music to the ears of any enthusiast."

Single-marque owners' clubs, private collections and historic race cars will all be invited to participate, with a large section dedicated to classic car dealerships also being on the cards. An autojumble is expected to feature, too.

The show heralds the return of motoring to London's ExCeL Centre, which hosted the British International Motor Show in 2006 and 2008, attracting more than 400,000 visitors to the capital.
