One of the historic rally calendar's most anticipated events is due to return in October 2015. The Sahara Challenge is a 10-day marathon through Africa that starts in the Spanish capital Madrid and crosses into Morocco, before heading for its final destination – Marrakech.
In total, 40 cars will participate in the event with each placed in one of three classes: Vintageant, Pre-1941 and Classic Cars in production before 1975.
The rally will begin with a welcome dinner on 4 October, after which contestants will drive to Cordoba, cross the hills of Andalucia and catch the ferry to Tangier. From there, the route will wind through the Todra Gorge and Erg Chebbi dunes on the way to Marrakech.
The Sahara Challenge is seen as a proving ground for the longer and more arduous Peking to Paris, also organised by the Endurance Rally Association.
