The 25th anniversary of the Silverstone Classic is to be marked this year by a massive parade of silver vehicles. Organisers of the event, which takes place from 24-26 July, are calling on owners of silver cars – both old and new – to join a huge parade of the Grand Prix circuit on what is being dubbed ‘Silver Sunday’.
The show is no stranger to colossal on-track parade, with previous gatherings of Porsche 911s and Ferrari F40s setting new world records.
“Right from the very first event in 1990, the Classic has always set out to commemorate important motoring anniversaries with track parades, but this is something a little bit different,” said event director Nick Wigely. “For once, it’s not limited to those lucky enough to own an E-type, 911 or F40 – it’s open to all those millions of motorists who simply have a silver car. We want as many people as possible to participate in our 25-year celebrations, and this is the perfect way to allow lots more to join the party.”
The entry list currently spans more than 90 years of motoring history, from a 1934 Austin Seven Special through to the latest offerings from the likes of Land-Rover and Aston Martin. Modern cars also feature heavily, with large numbers of Ford Fiestas, Honda Accords and Vauxhall Astras expected to attend.
Owners of silver cars wishing to take part in the parade will have to pay a supplemental fee of £25 – on top of the £52 day ticket price – to enjoy a lap of the circuit, with plenty of spaces still available.
