London Concours has announced a new class, Built To Race For The Road, to celebrate homologation specials at this year’s event.

A selection of roadgoing competition cars, from an MG Metro 6R4 to a Porsche 959, will vie for victory at the Honourable Artillery Company in central London on 6-8 June 2023.

They will join a Grand Tourisme class, for French classics, an Evolution of Aero division, for aerodynamic innovators, a 60 years of Lamborghini showcase, plus a 50-strong Porsche RS feature.

One of the homologation-special stars will be a 1973 Porsche 911 Carrera RS 2.7 Touring.

Based on a 911S, the 210bhp RS 2.7 made the 911 eligible to compete in Group 4 racing and it looked the part, too, with its distinctive ducktail spoiler.

And it’s not the only machine from Stuttgart heading to London Concours: a 1992 Porsche 959 Komfort will also compete in the Built To Race For The Road category.

The 444bhp, twin-turbocharged 959 was built to Group B rally specifications. Komfort trim included niceties such as air conditioning.

Group B rally regulations led to the creation of some monstrous road cars, including the Audi quattro (left) and the MG Metro 6R4

Sticking with German classics, an Audi quattro will also be at the Honourable Artillery Company in June.

More than 11,000 roadgoing quattros were made during an 11-year production run, making the four-wheel-drive Audi a hit on rally stages and in showrooms. One of its period competitors, an MG Metro 6R4, will be on display, too.

And away from Group B homologation specials, there will also be a Ford Sierra Cosworth to represent ’80s Group A regulations.

With an impressive whale-tail spoiler and a powerful turbocharged engine, the Sierra Cosworth has become a highly sought-after classic.

“We’re absolutely delighted to have been able to assemble such a wonderful line-up of homologation specials for the 2023 London Concours,” said Andrew Evans, London Concours Director.

“The Built To Race For The Road class has been carefully curated by our team, and features some of the most highly coveted, unique performance cars of recent times.”

The London Concours will return to the Honourable Artillery Company, found between Liverpool Street and Moorgate stations, from 6-8 June 2023.
