A line-up of 1950s competition cars, including the ’53 Le Mans-winning Jaguar C-type, will be on display at this year’s Concours of Elegance from 30 August-1 September.

It will be joined at Hampton Court Palace by a pair of Lagonda V12 DP115 racing cars, a 1956 Jaguar D-type (above) and two rare Ferraris.

These sports racers will be among the 60 classic cars competing for the Best in Show trophy.

The 1953 Le Mans-winning Jaguar C-type after a gruelling 24 hours

The ex-works Jaguar C-type heading to Concours of Elegance was piloted to Le Mans victory by Tony Rolt and Duncan Hamilton.

It was one of three lightweight C-types built for that year’s round-the-clock race.

The ’53 Le Mans winner, chassis XKC 051, was also the first car to average more than 100mph during the 24-hour race.

Another Jaguar, a 1956 D-type, will also be at Hampton Court Palace this summer.

Painted red – apparently one of only a handful finished in this colour – chassis XKD 518’s first private owner, racer Peter Blond, bought the car from ex-Formula One boss Bernie Ecclestone.

It was later purchased by Led Zeppelin’s manager, Peter Grant, before it was exported to the USA in the 1980s.

Following a recent restoration, it’s sure to draw a crowd at Concours of Elegance.

The Lagonda V12 DP115 was built to take on Le Mans

A pair of Lagonda V12 DP115 racing cars will be reunited at the show, too.

Fresh from being restored, the Aston Martin DB3S-based racers were developed with Le Mans victory in mind.

Despite developing a new, 280bhp V12 engine, Lagonda found little success with the V12 DP115 and just two examples were built.

The Ferrari Dino 196S (left) and 250 Monza will be at Concours of Elegance this summer

A pair of Ferraris – a 250 Monza and a Dino 196S – will join this class of sports-racing cars.

The former is a one-of-four, Scaglietti-bodied barchetta which finished fifth in the 1954 Carrera Panamericana.

The latter, a 2-litre, V6-powered racer, also competed in the Americas, including at Bahamas Speed Week, and also on the Targa Florio.

In total, more than 500 cars will gather at Hampton Court Palace for Concours of Elegance, which returns from 30 August-1 September 2024.
